Proof of Light

The world of Verdania is fiction. The crisis is not.

Half the city wears a mask now. Not for a virus, for the air. Corner stores post the day's air-quality number next to the lottery results. Children pull masks on to play outside. Nobody talks about it anymore, and that silence is the part that gets him. His name is Liam. He is sixteen. He keeps a notebook. And on a wildflower at the edge of his father's factory, a butterfly is doing something a butterfly should not be able to do.

The story

Feel Never Die is a cinematic sci-fi eco-drama set in a near-future American city where air pollution has become so normalized that N95 masks are as ordinary as umbrellas.

It follows Liam Calloway, a sixteen-year-old who notices a rare butterfly adapting to the pollution: a glow forming in her wings. He names her Sola, calls it the Sola Response, and documents it the way his mother taught him. Carefully, honestly, without stopping.

But Liam's father runs the factory poisoning the air. And his mother, Anna, is getting sick. At its core this is not an environmental story. It's a story about what we choose to see, what we refuse to stop documenting, and whether love survives the damage the world does to it. The answer is in the title.

The cast

Eight lives. One field.

The protagonist

Liam Calloway16

Feels everything, too much, all the time. He learned young to pour it into a notebook instead of letting it drown him, and he's the first to register the Sola Response, because he's the first paying close enough attention.

Liam's mother · science teacher

Anna Calloway42

Taught Liam that feeling and rigor aren't opposites. She meets her own illness the way she meets a hypothesis: gather the data, act on it, don't flinch. “The science is real. You are real. Keep going.”

Liam's father · CEO of CIR

Stefan Calloway47

Not a villain. A man who inherited his father's only measure of success: output. The hardest, bravest thing he does is change his mind in public.

Liam's best friend

Mira Santos16

Constant, warm, sharp. She runs the field counts beside Liam and carries her own quiet reason for caring: her grandmother died of a lung disease near a factory.

Science teacher

Ms. Chen~42

The teacher who notices what Liam is actually working on and opens the door to the university lab. The small adult act that changes everything.

Analytical chemist

Dr. Raymond Santos~52

Confirms the impossible under an electron microscope. The verification that turns a boy's notebook into real science. Co-author on the paper.

Lead scientist

Dr. Malakai Osman~55

The authority who names the discovery to the world and refuses the credit, telling a hall of academics that the primary researcher is sixteen.

Large Blue · Phengaris arion

Sola

The signal at the centre of everything. Black-spotted wings traced with electric blue and three gold activation points; in full activation every scale glows SOLA BLUE for 47 seconds. A creature that looks like biology and feels like a miracle.

The colour SOLA BLUE appears on only two things in the whole book: Sola's wings and Liam's notebook. Nowhere else. Ever.

The air is killing the city. A butterfly is turning the poison into light.

Why we made this

Most environmental stories try to scare you into caring. It doesn't work. Fear makes people look away, because helplessness is unbearable.

So we did the opposite. We start with wonder: a glowing butterfly in a boy's hands. Only then, gently, do we show you what's being lost. By the time you feel the loss, you already love what's at stake. That love is the only fuel that lasts.

A kid who reads this at ten should, at thirty, still flinch a little at a smokestack. Not because someone told them to, but because a butterfly once glowed in their hands and they never forgot how it felt.

Questions

The honest answers.

What is Feel Never Die?
A 160-page hardcover sci-fi eco-drama, and Volume 1 of The Clean World Series. A boy discovers a butterfly turning air pollution into light, while his father runs the factory making the air worse.
Is it based on real science?
Yes. The butterfly is fiction, but the mechanism is grounded in real lepidopteran biology and the actual chemistry of air pollution (PAHs). We didn't fake the science to make the story work.
Is it for kids?
It's written for young adults and adults. It deals honestly with illness and loss alongside wonder and hope, so it reads older than a children's book. (We make separate animated content for younger kids.)
Do I need to read the other volumes first?
No. Each volume in The Clean World Series is a complete, standalone story. They share one world and a quiet thread connecting them.
When does it launch?
July 2026, about four weeks out. Join the list and you'll be the first to know, with early access before the public.
What about pricing and rewards?
At launch we'll offer digital, print, and collector editions plus tabletop extras tied to the FND world. Pricing is revealed at launch. Join the list to hear it first, and Chapter 1 is yours free.
Who's making it?
JUGL Studio, an ethical content studio built on one promise: never make anything that doesn't leave people better than it found them.
